Patient Transport
Road Ambulance Versus Air Ambulance: Key Considerations
Road and air medical transport serve different situations. The right option depends on the patient's condition, distance, urgency, weather, medical supervision, route access, cost, and destination. A treating clinician or qualified medical transport team should make the clinical recommendation.

Road ambulance
Road transport may be suitable for local movement, hospital transfers, rehabilitation journeys, discharge, or longer routes where the patient can be safely supported on the ground. It may reduce the number of transfers between vehicles and terminals.
Air transport
Air transport may be considered for certain long-distance or time-sensitive journeys, subject to medical assessment, aircraft availability, airport access, permissions, weather, and cost. It is not automatically better for every patient or journey.
Questions to ask
Families should ask who will assess the patient, what medical support will be available, how ground transfers will be coordinated, what documents are required, and what the quotation includes. A transport platform should communicate its scope clearly.
TenMed Network is focused on ambulance aggregation and emergency-care connectivity. It can help route enquiries to relevant providers where available, but it does not independently determine whether road or air transport is medically appropriate.
